SO OKAY it is not a secret that I loev Tales games because they have HORRIBLE THINGS HAPPENING and in the meantime there's a lot of character development and banter in skits etc etc. Lots of heartpunching, which I like.

Tales of Innocence is a lot quieter in that regard; it's about a tiny boy named Ruca who is bullied and constantly ;o; who… remembers being a GIGANTIC CHARISMATIC WARLORD WITH HORNS AND A TAIL in a past life. Only THINGS ARE HAPPENING; when people who remember things like that Awaken, they are identifiable and thus rounded up and used as soldiers/lab rats etc. So he ends up meeting and running away with his girlfriend from a past life, who is now a dual-handgun-wielding >8) girl who bullies him a little.

Along the way they encounter venerable party members who they knew in their past life! Like the guy that Ruca remembers killing in the first five minutes of the game! And his gigantic talking sword! They have been reborn as human beings.

Tales of Innocence actually takes on some of the same themes as Aather/other memory games; there's a lot of focus on regaining memories from their past life to just find out what happened, only to realize that, uh, it's not necessarily good stuff since they're living totally different lives now. Like… IDK how much you have been following Mithos and Lloyd, but there's a similar situation that crops up where two of the party members actually killed Ruca's past life… but none of them remember it-- they just remember the parts where they were pretending to get along, so they think they were all friends! It's a little different in that they DID like him, just… not enough to not kill him… but yes. There's a bit where a girl who's not a party member remembers something critical before the rest of the party does, but they don't believe her and thus she doesn't become a party member! (…but it's true.) SO THERE'S A LOT OF MEMORY ANTICS THERE THAT I QUITE ENJOY.

But yeah, it's a very quiet game and doesn't have the OH MY GOD SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE or I DESTROYED AKZERIUTH or I HAVE TO KILL MY BEST FRIEND that some of the larger console mothership titles have; it's basically a story about a bunch of people rediscovering their identities/memories and being dorky together and bullying the protagonist into developing a backbone. \o/

and then I apped a memory game into a memory game the end

…sob okay DO YOU THINK ANYTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE FOR AERIS once she remembers being not-dead?

Uhhh hmm. I HAVE LIKE THIS LIST OF CHARACTERS I HAVE POKED IDLY AT! But they are all disqualified for me never actually finishing their canon or already playing a character type close enough. Hermana and Ginshu have a good range for me. Probably an old lady or a dude, though.

EXCEPTIONS: If I did not fail at being British I would totally app a Freakangel just for gorgeous icons, and if her canon did not disqualify her by… not actually being an appable canon for memories unless one accepts a certain degree of fanon (…all her memories are alternities otherwise…), I would app Iwashita in a HEARTBEAT kyaa kyaa.

What are some of your favorite things about FFVII :D LET ME BASK IN NOSTALGIA.
