The whole Estraneo mess probably started around this time or a bit before or a bit after. While it's possible that the dislike of the Estraneo happened later, I've chosen for it to be a whole life thing. This is partly because Ken didn't say their lives had changed so much as it was a constant thing -- though there was escalation through the years so it can't have been too much before when they were born. Mukuro's opinion on the world is pretty severe, if he was older he would have a more focused dislike or associations, probably.

There are 7-10 unaccounted for years with no mentions of events that happened in these times directly! There are a few implications -- the outside mafia v. estraneo stuff, just the general escalation of "motivated the adults even more" and so forth.

I pretty much chose to have the headcanon for this Mukuro, at these ages, to be . . . 'nicer' in a sense. Not too nice, but more quiet, withdrawn. Less crazy, less posturing and so forth. Ken said that Mukuro "wasn't the kind to stick out" and that the Estraneo annihilation was the first time he'd heard him speak. Which is pretty different from ~~the Mukuro that likes to hear himself talk~~ the Mukuro in present canon.

And then, hand in hand with that, decided that it was a sliding progression towards where he ended up. Not to say it was like "oh that mukuro was a nice boy and then he became bitter and mean" or whatnot. But he certainly wasn't on the world destroying track as a kid. Probably a pretty judgmental and predisposed to being obsessive and a high likelihood of asshole later in life. But a lot of people are assholes and don't go around trying to start world wars.

Most of my triv negative padding comes from this time in his life. Stacking up the little experiences of deciding that the world can't be trusted that the mafia is full of shit and everything has to be destroyed. He also had a larger umbrella memory that was more like the expositional blanket.

I place three things in this small timeframe. One of which is that he gets the right eye. The second is Hell and the third is killing all Estraneo.

It isn't canon that Mukuro actually went to Hell. He says it, but he's also a lying mcliaface. His skillset and theme are pretty Hell related, but again it's easily something that could go either way. For Aather though, I chose that he did so I could start him with a memory that gave me what I wanted for his personality to start. IE something a little crazy, definitely negative and more towards his canon self but also with enough room for major change. It worked out pretty well.

I do pretty much link the eye and the Hell stuff together. Which, it isn't proven that he actually needs that eye to do stuff either. Especially since half the time he isn't in his own body. But it is the trigger event for the Hell stuff for me. This is complete headcanon.

I place the eye and Hell close to the decision to kill everyone. There was probably another trigger event that lined up with that, as well as the whole . . . general building of wow my life is shit, but they happened around the same time for me.

And then the whole KILL ALL ESTRANEO. Playing it as not premeditated. Something that he thought about a fair amount, but more in the fantastical sense and less in the and then I will do this and this and this. But then Something Happened and just. Everything lined up and he killed them all.

It's in this section of events as well that his personality shift probably came about. Not entirely, again, because these things aren't SUDDENLY B. But the eye and Hell and slaughter and the general bubble of craziness was getting bigger sort of thing. And then success, probably, also contributed to his crazy. He did actually kill them all, and that was great, for him. Going from completely powerless for his whole life to having essentially supreme power . . . yup.

• Lancia's familicide ( reference )

I like to place at least a few years between the Estraneo killing and Lancia's familicide, but again there isn't a real canonpoint. The only solid canon point we have for any of Mukuro's backstory is that Lancia's family was slaughtered '5 years ago', so. But I usually give Mukuro at least a year to cool off a bit, just some time with Ken and Chikusa, etc. Not too much time because by the time he meets Lancia he's still pretty riled up on the whole slaughter thing and so forth. But I like to space some time.

I also like to give at least a few months to a year of time with Lancia. It's pretty clear Mukuro has some kind of attachment or bond with Lancia, regardless of what kind it is. This is mentioned a few times by Lancia in the drama cds. Mukuro doesn't mention it, but he wouldn't, the asshole.

The 'time off' Mukuro probably realized that he was 'a kid' to most people, which had its advantages but not what he wanted. Since he wanted to become a SCOURGE TO THE MAFIA or whatever. Though he also wanted to stay private :|a so he needed a proxy. Lancia was the perfect proxy and Lancia also provided a lot of weird 'other' things for him. Probably a bizarre sense of safety (which can be parsed as usefulness) and then the ability to have power over someone that other people considered terrifying is always a good bonus as well.

And then Mukuro made Lancia kill his family, prevented him from killing himself and toted him around for like five years committing random crimes and killing people I guess. (dance_okok).

M-MORE UNACCOUNTED TIME, which is where a lot of the triv pos and triv neutrals can be padded up with. OH THAT TIME WE KILLED SOMEONE. OH THAT TIME I MADE LANCIA FEEL TERRIBLE ABOUT HIMSELF ;D etc.

There is another shift here. Tsuna "purified" Mukuro's "dark aura" whatever that means. And Mukuro himself said he had a certain . . . feeling . . . which is why he wants the Vongola's power even more blah blah whatever. But it's pretty much the end of his villainy here.

Chrome is another shift! She's his balancer and will become his excuse for not being a complete dickhead. Also she is another of his "other selves". Lancia being the first and Chrome being the second.

• this timeline is technically dead anyway since they "fixed" it

The arc where Mukuro is even more ridiculous than before! He's pretty much lost his ability to keep his cool by now. Spends like 17 chapters as an owl. Does a lot of OH NO I'M A VILLAIN and OH NO UR SO WEAK DON'T DO THAT and OH NO I WON'T HELP OUT or whatever and then does anyway. Oh well, he can blame it on Chrome.

-> Hibari went to Kokuyou to fight Mukuro

Mostly continued unDignity and failure to keep his cool. Though there is the fact that Verde is a mafia scientist baby but I guess that doesn't matter.

Fran gets the ? because he's the one who got Mukuro out of the Vindice, and so would be the direct reference to the "If I were one person" but afaik there are no other instances of the same proxy-ing with the others that Mukuro does.

Guido is also an unsure, as he was used while Mukuro was infiltrating the Millefiore but whether or not Guido was an 'easy toss away' or not is not at all gone into. Possibly. Or possibly an easy toss way that still has proxy status anyway. Or just someone not Chrome since it's assumed the Millefiore and so forth would know her. Who knows.

Anyway, if you're part of Kokuyou you get to fall under his amazing sense of egospread.
