Ah... hm... there's no doubt in my mind that Spitfire genuinely loves Ine a lot. She is probably his single most important person, and he trusts her and relies on her in a way that no one else is really privy to.
That said, he's not actually in love with her. She's a comfortable presence and he enjoys her company. It could have become sexual, except that he knows that she is in love with him and he doesn't want to hurt her. It is a very bittersweet love because they both realize the divide, and they have to keep it in mind when they would prefer to cross it sometimes.
They are one of my favorite romances in AG for just how... poignant their relationship is.
